Actinic Keratosis Treatment
Although actinic keratoses are precancerous skin cells, they are typically treated in much the same manner as skin cancers, via the following procedures:
-
Cryosurgery: freezing and killing precancerous cells
-
Curettage: scraping away precancerous cells
-
Electrodesiccation: killing precancerous cells with electricity
Treatments include:
Picato (a natural anti-cancer agent found in an Australian plant)
5-fluorouracil (Efudex and Carac)
imiquimod (Aldara and Zyclara)
Solaraze, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory gel
